About us

Woodside Station Boarding Stables is a 78 acre working farm in Millersburg, PA. It’s a family owned business which has withstood the tests of time. From the 1960’s to 1989, this property was known as Sycamore Meade Dairy Farm with prestigious, award winning Ayrshire cattle. In 1989, Earl Keefer, Sr sold his herd of dairy cattle, and a few year later, the dairy barn was converted into horse stalls as a boarding stable. There have been various managers over the years, both family and non-family, but the ownership of the farm has been of Keefer/Shetterly lineage for many years.

Steve & Rachel had a dream to own the farm while they were dating and into their early years of marriage. However, the dream was to keep maintaining the dairy herd. The facility needed too many upgrades, and so the dream was surrendered and walked away from for many years.

On May 15, 2013, papers were signed and Steve & Rachel became the owners of Woodside Station Boarding Stables. On January 1, 2022, the farm was incorporated under the name Sycamore Meade, LLC, and the farm is operated by a Board of Directors consisting of each of the family members and 2 representatives from the barn family.

Steve received a Bachelor of Arts in Dairy Science from Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture in 1991. He was employed as herdsman in the beginning years of married life at dairy farms in Rising Sun, MD and Chambersburg, PA. In January 1999, Steve began a new career as an Area Director of Animal Nutrition for F.M. Browns, Sons, Inc. This job change brought the family back to the home area of Millersburg. Steve is still employed with this company. In his spare time when there is some to be found, he enjoys being with the family, hunting, doing fun projects, and watching videos about farming and history.

Rachel attended Allegheny Wesleyan College, Salem, OH as a major in the Missions department but chose to get married instead. Rachel has been a homemaker for the greatest majority of their marriage. As an empty nester, Rachel worked briefly as an office administrator for Lifeline Pregnancy Care Center, and more recently as a retail designer for Smucker Gardens. In her spare time, she enjoys being with the family, drinking coffee, birds, flowers, gardening, travel, and learning through taking courses on various topics.

Steve & Rachel married in 1991 and have 5 children.
